OPENING                                   Jane Henwood

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

TIME OF SILENCE

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (together)

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone.  We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. Through the Cross of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name.  Amen.

Leader:

God fully loves us and completely accepts us through the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by the beautiful grace of his Spirit God is irresistibly making us more and more holy until the promised Day of Christ Jesus.  Thanks be to God!

SHARING THE PEACE OF CHRIST

PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION

NEW TESTAMENT LESSON – Romans 5.1-4

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we[c] also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

HYMN 328 – “In the Cross of Christ I Glory”   Rathbun

NEW TESTAMENT LESSON – 1 John 4.9-12

This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
