OPENING Steve Nitz
Lord, who may dwell in your sacred tent?
Who may live on your holy mountain?
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
TIME OF SILENCE
PRAYER OF CONFESSION (together)
Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. Through the Cross of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.
Leader:
In this world, there is no justifying us. Yet, God fully loves us and completely accepts us through the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by the beautiful grace of his Spirit God is irresistibly making us more and more holy until the promised Day of Christ Jesus. Thanks be to God!
HYMN 1 – “Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven” Lauda anima
SHARING THE PEACE OF CHRIST
PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION – Psalm 106.1-6, 21-23
1 Praise the Lord! O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
for his steadfast love endures forever.
2 Who can utter the mighty doings of the Lord,
or declare all his praise?
3 Happy are those who observe justice,
who do righteousness at all times.
4 Remember me, O Lord, when you show favor to your people;
help me when you deliver them;
5 that I may see the prosperity of your chosen ones,
that I may rejoice in the gladness of your nation,
that I may glory in your heritage.
6 Both we and our ancestors have sinned;
we have committed iniquity, have done wickedly.
21 They forgot God, their Savior,
who had done great things in Egypt,
22 wondrous works in the land of Ham,
and awesome deeds by the Red Sea.
23 Therefore he said he would destroy them —
had not Moses, his chosen one,
stood in the breach before him,
to turn away his wrath from destroying them.
HYMN 634 – “More Love to Thee, O Christ” More Love to Thee
NEW TESTAMENT LESSON – St. Matthew 7.21-27
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will nter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
